When I started building the 10X Stages system, I started with a simple belief….

Your message matters.

So I found someone I believed in…

…Whose message left a profound impact on me, my family, and our lives…

In 2003, before our work, his revenue was at just $63,000.

By 2011…it had surpassed $6.5 MILLION.

His name is Darrell Scott.

His daughter was the first child killed in the Columbine High School shootings.

Despite his grief, Darrell dedicated his life to sharing a message of hope and perseverance in the wake of that tragedy.

I invited Darrell to speak to my community…

And I invited my Dad.

Up to this point, Dad and I had a very, very broken relationship.

From leaving me alone in our trailer to fend for myself for the weekend (as a second-grader) with only $20 and the direct order to be brave (AKA: don’t call grandma)…

…to hanging out in nightclubs and bars…

…to the most dreaded nights – when the Cowboys lost (which happened A LOT when I was a kid). I knew what those nights meant, and it was nothing good.

For years, I had tried to repair our relationship, only to be rejected over and over again.

But for some reason…he agreed to come and hear Darrell speak.

That’s when he said something so profound, I could only hope it would touch my dad’s heart:

“There are people in your life that you love, that you need to let them know how much you love them because you don’t know if they’re going to be here tomorrow.”

About a week later, I got a letter in the mail from my Dad.

“I’m sorry for the father I’ve been.

Here my son is having an impact on hundreds of kids’ lives and I can’t have an impact on my only son’s life. I’m asking for a second chance to do things right.”

And he told me that he loved me.

Our relationship has only gotten better since then.
